Can't it just be called Pirates of the Caribbean 3?

First off, I mostly enjoyed the movie. There were some super hammy parts. As usual, the movie took a bit long to "wrap up." Even the epilogue after the credits was stretching out the length. Although it made time sense to do it but man! Anyways, lots more Jack Sparrow in this version. Some good one liners although I can't seem to remember any so what does that say? No spinning wheel fight in this one but they somehow manage to OUT-DO that fight in terms of physical rotations. While pirately appropriate, the director must have been on the tea cup ride at Disneyland when he came up with this one. I'm sure they could have edited it down to 150 minutes instead of 165. Oh well. Yo ho yo ho.

Tubular Tuesday Night

TFB Movie night moved to Tuesdays. In this edition we have the most famous congenital dwarf, Weng Weng in this "double 0" action flick, For Your Height Only. It's a funny movie with some awesome dubbing. There is even a rap video dedication to it.























There was a show at the Hemlock. The first group was called Orb of Confusion. I don't really partake in heavy metal but with a pair of earplugs, it can be quite rocking. They gave out free demo CDs afterwards so it I will probably check them out tomorrow at work.
















Above is a blurry version of Lozen from Tacoma, Washington. Again, the heavy metal was rocking. These two girls can really rock. However... I really came to see this band from Okinawa, Japan. Coworker Ed sent me a link and they seemed... interesting. I was pleasantly surprised by the first two bands. Lozen was much better than OoC but I was not fully prepared for Bleach03. I had seen some videos on youtube and knew they were heavy metalish but for some reason, the bassist was not in the video I saw. Awesome. I love surprises.

I came away impressed enough to (borrow money and) buy and album. This will be a welcome addition to the Ipod as I have found myself recently skipping songs saying "no, not rocking enough." I don't want to be put asleep in the car afterall. Speaking of which, it's late again. I have not been getting enough sleep so far this week.
















Some Turkey at Tommy's Joynt. Some of it was kinda dry. I think I just stick with juicy Corned Beef from now on. Mmmmmm...

Median Sunday

I originally had planned to cook today. Probably a chicken stew of sorts. Some banana nut bread. But instead the usual suspects went to hang out. Got some food. Went to some stores. Eventually ended up at my apartment where we looked at the books I got from A.P.E. I did snap this photo in Japan Town which I found amusing.

Music and Food.

Sizzling Rice Soup. Last time, Kev and I had this at Taiwan Restaurant and it wasn't that great. This time at (I think) Lucky Fortune Restaurant (also on Clement) Dan and I received a much better version of it. Notable difference: there were no hard pieces of rice. Anything in the soup you'd want to eat. Tasty!
















String Beans with Beef in Black Bean sauce. Too much Black Bean = too salty! This is your standard run of the mill dish. It's edible and the extra salt means you just eat more rice so it's not necessarily a ~bad thing but it's not a good thing. And the dish itself. Not bad. Not great. Just ok. Definitely have had better.
















And I can't remember when the last time I had Honey Walnut Prawns. These were the non-saucy types. That is to say, these were the crunchy types. We got a bit short-changed on the walnuts but if you are going to have a lack of balance in the prawn to walnut ratio I guess I would want more prawns. I never really followed up doing reviews so I'll quickly say this place is ok. I liked the soup. There are cheaper restaurants out there that will get you the same quality. As for Taiwan Restaurant; not so much. 5/10 for Lucky. 4/10 for Taiwan.









So the real reason for being in the neighbourhood was a continuation of the Mission Creek Music Festival. This time was a show featuring all the bands from the Three Rings Label. Pictured above is Scrabbel.
















This show was a fund raiser show so all proceeds went to a charity group for homeless children and teens. That's Jay Martinovich with the Big Salmon.
















So Music for Animals did the last show. Basically because they are the most popular. Here's a cool group action shot. Everyone has their mouth open and is striking a pose.

Gamercise + Southern Indian

So this week I managed to gamercise Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It was great being active. We've relocated from the Northgate Mall to the friendlier (both for time and money) Star Base; San Rafael's oldest arcade. Afterwards we ventured into a restaurant Chris and I passed by on Wednesday. It's around 4th and E St. They serve South Indian food so no Naan or Chicken Tiki Masala but more like Dosa , Idli, Vasa, Sambhar, and Utthapan (Indian Pancake?) which is what I got. Mission Creek Music Festival

This is Odessa Chen. I went to go see her perform at Rock-it Room's Mission Creek Music Festival. Unfortunately while cramming some stuff for work, I sort of lost track of time and arrived just in time to see her packing up. I did hear her sing for maybe a second (quite literally) while a) driving past the Rock-it Room looking for parking and b) entering said venue. =P I originally saw her perform way back in the early 2000s when Emm did a show out in SF. Probably the same time she did a Living Room Show at my Treasure Island apartment. Vienna Teng was there too and some other girl. I guess it was Asian (North - Emm's from Canada aye) American Women Musician night or something.
















Well, this other band called the Boxcar Saints reminded me of the Kill Bill soundtrack. The non-Japanese parts anyways.
