500 Days of Miyazaki
if only. that would be some really educational stuff.
Saw this movie with Steve and Dan. I hadn't seen a trailer or anything for it. I forget the last movie I saw going in blind...
Afterwards, in Berkeley. Ran into a craaaaazy number of people I know and not just from this event. But mostly from this event. This is the Zellerbach Hall @ UCB/Cal. It looks like the home of the Morlocks.
I saw Hayao Miyazaki talk. If you don't know him, he IS the Walt Disney of Japan. Except he is Japanese. And alive. And way cooler. And has this stereotypical Japanese low-register grunt "Mmmmm" he does deeply contemplating his answer before speaking. And way cooler. Oh I said that. But to prove the point, he storyboards all of his movies in their entirety. But he did say that is what directors in Japan do. In the US they just... well I'm not sure but they surely don't storyboard. Neverless the entire movie. His advice to aspiring animators (which I think applies to all creative fields) was to endlessly practice and seek critical feedback from those who will not seek to inflate your ego or go easy on you.
After-after. Sausages and Frites w/ roasted tomatoes at La Note in Berkeley w/ Dan and some of his Pixar friends. I believe this was on Shattuck, somewhere well south of University.
Beckett's Irish Grill and Pub for some drinks and in house Pirate sing-a-longs. Seriously...

Totally Awesome Saturday
Arcade Expo w/ Cat. Met Omz (in the middle w/ his daughter)
Raaargh! It's a bear! Shoot it!
8 player Tank Combat... is fucking awesome!!! I want one of these.
This game is great. I could never remember the name. I suppose I come have asked Maria. As strange as the name Pooyan is, I find it even stranger that the pig on the right is making sultry eyes at the wolf.
I made fun of Cat's dodging skills. She quickly upped her game and shut me up.
This character was like something out of a Erol Otus (my co-worker and former D&D artist) illustration.
This one is a bit weird too. Wacko even...
If Dante's Inferno (the new game) features a space man with a flame thrower, we'll know the game is just some remake hack.
Anyone remember this hologram game?
This was this interesting game where you turn a knob to 'tease' the character and their animations into a positive reaction. Turn too fast, too much, don't turn enough, and you'll get a negative reaction.
Cat waiting her turn. There was a funny moment when I was carrying Cat's niece (her sister came by but did not attend due to the high cost of expo admission. PS, Cat is engaged. PPS not to me) and thought if someone who I hadn't seen in some time saw me, they would have thought I got married and had a kid. Ha.
Cat attempting to seduce a nurse.
Pastrami
@ Pisco.
to celebrate the Birthday Princess, Jane.
And then down the street for Kat's birthday.

Drive by a cow, eat a cow. It's the 4th of July!
another BBQ at coworker Mike's Log Cabin.
Tri-tip. Mike lives on land bought from a farmer in Petaluma and on that farm you can buy meat from the very cows you drive by on the way up to his cabin. In a matter of speaking. Farm fresh meat!
Why is really rare meat called "Blue?" It's obviously still red.
The final form of my take caramel pear ice cream. There are two types of ice cream. The lighter one is super peary and sweet. The darker one has identical ingredients. The big difference is letting the caramel burn a bit (think creme brule). Roasted danjou pear + parmesan cracker for sugar tempering.
I used to play this game with my cousin Woody. I played it with a coworker's daughter. Her solution to all my attacks was to burn them. Even when I drew Team Rocket in a fire consuming machine, she would still insist on burning things. Even the people I used Jesus to ressurect.
Last night drinks and introspection.
